Legal Secretary

This is a highly responsible professional position in the City Attorney's Office. This individual works closely with the City Attorney and other City department heads. Must be a self-motivated professional able to multi-task and willing to take on challenging assignments. Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality of attorney-client privileged matters.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare legal documents including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, real estate documents, liens, release of liens and other miscellaneous legal documents under the direct supervision of the City Attorney. Processes third-party claims filed against the City of Paris as well as filing claims on behalf of the City according to City guidelines. Respond to public information requests and prepare letters to Texas Attorney General. Prepare civil litigation documents at the direction of the City Attorney. Track projects and deadlines by maintaining a tickler system. Schedule and maintain City Attorney calendar as needed. Maintain the law library by ensuring that updates are filed as received. Prepare payroll for the legal department. Receive calls and handle incoming and outgoing mail and perform administrative assistant duties for the City Attorney. Complete other assignments as requested by the City Attorney. Maintains a regular and predictable work schedule.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent. Experience working in a municipal legal department or other governmental legal department is preferred, although the City Attorney will train an exceptional applicant willing to learn. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint and Excel programs. Must have good critical thinking skills and be able to communicate well both orally and in writing using proper grammar. Ability to maintain confidentiality is a must.
