- The Disability Specialist advocates for the inclusion of students with disabilities and assists the university in maintaining compliance with federal disability statutes and university policies.
- The Disability Specialist meets with students and reviews medical documentation to determine reasonable accommodations and support services, advises students, provides case management services, and makes referrals to other resources.
- The Disability Specialist functions as a part of the Disability Services team to handle the following responsibilities: review periodically and update policies and procedures in accordance with changing standards and best practices; participate in programming and outreach events on behalf of the department; serve on interdepartmental working groups; and, perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Rehabilitation, Education or related field with emphasis on assessment and the provision of disability services, plus 2-3 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge in the areas of post-secondary disability accommodations and auxiliary services; experience in providing disability services to college students, including experience reviewing psycho-educational documentation; knowledge of the learning context of highly selective post-secondary institutions strongly preferred.
