Scope of work may be modified by state specific rules under the Nurse Practice Act. Qualifications: Education: * Graduate of accredited RN School of Nursing. Licenses/Certification: * Valid RN license in the state employed. * Valid CPR certification. Experience: * two year of nursing experience preferred. Essential Functions: * Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the ostomy care for patients on units * Provides advanced clinical guidance to physicians and nursing staff for complex wound drainage, drainage confinement, skin protection, and the prevention of pressure necrosis (skin deterioration and skin loss) * Develops and conducts educational programs for staff * Determines appropriate nursing interventions for identified patient problems, symptoms, and teaching needs * Develops a patient care plan and determines the equipment, materials, and resources needed to successfully implement the care plan * Selects the stoma (opening) site on the patient prior to surgery, based on the patient's anatomy, activity level, and lifestyle * Performs related responsibilities as required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce. * Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team. * Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization. * Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations. * Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff. * Ability to maintain confidentiality.
