Job Title: RN Clinical Periop Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Inpatient Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8.5 hours (0645 - 1715), 3 days per week Experience: Less than 1 year required; completion of accredited/approved school of nursing with requisite clinical hours preferred; experience with direct patient care preferred License: RN - Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Compact (Multi-state Compact) Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor Must-Have: Ability to read, write, and speak English; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; excellent time management skills; ability to function in a fast-paced environment; strong critical thinking skills Description: The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers. This role ensures that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, and safe patient care. The nurse practices in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders. The framework for practice is guided by a professional practice model and evidence-based practices. Core responsibilities include performing the nursing process in clinical care, using analytical and critical thinking to ensure individualized care. Relationship-based patient-centered care must be provided, adapting service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity. The RN will partner with patients and their significant others, keeping them updated and focused on the patients’ goals. Documentation of safe, quality patient care promotes a professional delivery model and participatory interdisciplinary communication. The RN demonstrates teamwork by promoting a respectful, inclusive clinical environment. They participate in performance improvement, research, and support shared governance activities. Professional development is essential, as RNs complete competency assessments and mandatory education. The RN serves as a preceptor or mentor ensuring a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment. Promoting evidence-based practice and nursing research are vital to this role.
