JOB DESCRIPTIONTitleLVN - Licensed Vocational NurseDepartmentCampus BasedReports ToLicensed Registered School NurseCompensationCIS 306Days187Revised: 02/15/2022PRIMARY PURPOSE:Administers and coordinates the health services program.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Certification RequirementsHigh school graduate or GED equivalentValid Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse License issued by the Texas Board of NursingCertification by the Texas Department of State Health Services to administer Hearing, Vision and Spinal Screenings required upon employmentParaprofessional Certification, as required by the State Board and DistrictCandidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background checkSpecial Knowledge and SkillsAbility to operate computer and use word processing, spreadsheet databases softwareAbility to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and maintain confidential informationAbility to work under stressful and emotional circumstances with students who are medically fragileExperience:* Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience in community health, hospital environment, physician's office, or school health or one-year internship with school district experienceMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)Work under the direct supervision of Licensed Registered School NurseProvide basic care, minor first aide, and minor emergency care for ill and injured students and staff according to established District policy and procedures within the Licensed Vocational Nurse scope of practiceConduct school health services, vision, hearing, and other such screenings as may be requiredDispense prescribed medication with doctor's orders and parent permissionMonitor immunization requirementsMaintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all studentsSecure immediate medical care for students and staff in emergency situationsContact the Licensed Registered School Nurse to matters of non-routine natureConsult with the Licensed Registered School Nurse relative if unsure about policies, procedures, or protocolsReport situations requiring the Licensed Registered School Nurse's assessment and/or interventions to the Licensed Registered School Nurse immediatelyUtilize a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-oriented nursing care by collecting data and performing focused nursing assessments and implementing appropriate aspects of care within the Licensed Vocational Nurses scope of practicePerform other duties as assigned, based on department needsMust complete designated district technology proficiencies each yearRequires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skillsAbility to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resourcesMaintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearanceEnsure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of EthicsDaily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities:N/AEquipment Used:* Office equipment - personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to positionMental Demands:* Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute* Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stressPhysical Demands:* Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling* Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 poundsEnvironmental Factors:Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibrationOccasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hoursNondiscrimination Statement:The Judson School District considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, national origin, age, religion, sex, marital or veteran status, the presence of a medical condition, disability, or any other legally protected status.
