Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 - Facilities

Maintenance Repair Specialist 1Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is recruiting for two Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 for the Facilities and Maintenance Department. The position will maintain, repair, and modify plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and paint work. Other duties include, but are not limited to; working special events and space set up; supervising employees and students; training part-time laborers and student workers; instillation of toilets and sinks; troubleshoot electrical issues; installing window coverings; working with vendors; setting up scaffolding; handling irate customers in difficult situations in a helpful manner; meet with clients to determine need; perform all duties in a safe manner according to institutional policy and procedure; keep others involved and informed; other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: This position requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two (2) or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and is a condition of continuing employment. This job requires heavy lifting, including furniture, materials, and equipment. Climbing ladders and crawling in ceilings, and other tight spaces, is required. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with locksmith experience including but not limited to pinning, repair, and record management and experience in electronic access systems for building access and security are encouraged to apply. Schedule: The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. While on call on the rotation schedule, the emergencies can extend the working day for longer shifts/extended hours Compensation Grade: Grade 30 (Entry, Step 01 $25.99/hr) In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
