Project Engineer - Water Resources

Job TypeFull-timeDescriptionPosition SummaryEmployees in this job complete and oversee a variety of professional engineering assignments. The duties of a water resource project engineer can vary between positions and locations, but generally, a water resource engineer works on designing pump systems, pipelines and treatment plants for handling wastewater. Water resource engineers also work on flood control projects and help map out drainage systems for dealing with water flow. They may also work on fresh water supply systems, such as those used for drinking water.Experienced Project Engineers may take on a project manager role and spend more time in the field or meeting with clients and government officials. These professionals review the work of technicians and less experienced engineers to ensure compliance with regulations. Additionally, more experienced Project Engineers may analyze the environmental impact of proposed construction and check specifications for adherence to engineering standards.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesComplete studies, reports, and investigations of water, wastewater, and drainage issues based upon needs and desires of clientsReview plans for compliance with local, state, federal and industry standardsWork closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projectsComplete work in such a way as to maintain project schedules and costsDevelop plans, specifications and probable opinion of construction cost estimates for water, wastewater and drainage projectsAssist in or complete water, wastewater and drainage design and layout activities including erosion control and water quality maintenanceComplete design calculation utilizing spreadsheets and computer-based design softwareComplete computer modeling for water distribution, wastewater collection and drainage systemsExplore alternative construction or operating methods that could be used to save costsAttend client meetingsMonitor and observe daily construction activities on civil engineering projectsCoordinate and complete construction administration activitiesPerform drafting tasks, as assigned, to meet deliverable schedulesPrepare permit applications relative to water, wastewater, and drainage facilitiesPerform field inspection and investigationEstablish good rapport and build relationships with peers and clients by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely mannerRemain updated on current professional practices and maintain a high awareness of new products and procedures in industry by monitoring trade publications and actively participating in professional associationsComply with all company policies including safety policiesPerform other duties as requiredCooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical supportRequirementsEducation and/or ExperienceBachelor's in civil engineering or related field. With EIT CertificationProfessional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana preferred; licensure in additional states may be requiredSufficient experience and proper competency to serve project engineering client needsMicrosoft Office Suite with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and WordEngineering Software Requirements Specific to Water Resources, such as but not limited to, WaterCAD/Gems, SewerCAD/Gems, ArcGIS,Excellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organization and time management skillsAbility to provide practical and results oriented technical solutions for projectsAbility to contribute positively in an overall team environment
