Full Stack Software Engineer, AI & Platform (PHP/Laravel)

*About the Role * Evolution Collect is building software that makes debt collection more human, intelligent, and effective. AI is becoming a core part of our product, and we’re looking for a strong full-stack software engineer to help build the next generation of the platform. Our core application stack includes multiple technologies, but we care most about strong engineering fundamentals, product ownership, and the ability to become productive across the stack. You’ll build AI-powered agents, workflow and automation tools, integrations, and customer-facing features used in real-world collection operations. The role spans backend and frontend development, API integrations, architecture, deployment, and ongoing product improvement. This is an applied software engineering role rather than an AI research position. You won’t be training foundation models. Instead, you’ll use modern AI models, APIs, and tooling to build reliable, useful products. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to turn business problems into practical technical solutions, make sound engineering decisions, and take ownership of features from initial idea through production and iteration. The role moves fast, with a focus on running quick experiments, testing assumptions, learning from results, and releasing frequently through short, iterative development cycles. *What You'll Do * * Own features end to end: Take projects from discussion through deployment, building backend services, APIs, integrations, and responsive frontend experiences across our application stack. * Build AI products and agents: Use large language models and other AI services to automate workflows, assist users, and add useful capabilities to our platform. * Integrate external services: Connect our platform with AI models, communication services, and other third-party systems, with a focus on reliability in production. * Make AI features reliable: Test AI behavior, improve guardrails, and manage accuracy, latency, performance, and cost. * Ship reliable production software: Write maintainable, tested code and use logging, monitoring, deployment, and debugging tools to keep features healthy in production. *What We're Looking For * Required * 3+ years of professional software development experience, including production PHP/Laravel work * Strong PHP and Laravel experience building production backend applications, APIs, and integrations * Solid JavaScript/TypeScript skills and experience with Vue.js, React, or a similar modern frontend framework * Relational database depth, including schema design, queries, indexing, and performance tuning in MySQL * Comfort with queues, background jobs, caching, and other production application patterns * Git and modern development workflows * Automated testing habits and the judgment to know what needs coverage * Hands-on experience building software with AI models and APIs, beyond prompt experimentation * Ability to translate business needs into practical product and technical decisions, communicate clearly, and work independently *Nice to Have * * Production AI depth: multi-agent systems, multi-step workflows, tool and function calling, retrieval-augmented generation, or semantic search * Keeping AI reliable in production: evaluating outputs, building guardrails, and managing latency and cost * Conversational AI, chat, voice, messaging, or real-time applications * Experience working with and manipulating large datasets, including transforming, processing, and integrating data from multiple sources * Elasticsearch * Docker and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP * SaaS or B2B products * Communications, CRM, payments, regulated industries, or sensitive customer data *You'll Thrive Here If * * You can work across the frontend and backend, turning ambiguous business problems into practical solutions and building production-ready AI functionality that goes beyond prompt experimentation. * You prefer to ship useful improvements, learn from real-world results, and iterate quickly rather than work through long release cycles. * You are naturally curious, learn new technologies independently, and care about improving the experience for both our customers and the consumers they serve. *Who We Are * Evolution Collect builds modern software for the debt collection industry. We are a small, experienced team where people have real ownership. Developers work directly with stakeholders, help shape the solution, and take projects from initial idea through launch and iteration. Our team works from Class A office space at Brickell Key Centre in Miami.
