It quickly established itself as one of the state's preferred architectural firms.Position OverviewWe are seeking a licensed Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) to lead fire protection design for commercial, retail, grocery, and multifamily projects. The ideal candidate will combine strong architectural collaboration skills with project engineering leadership to deliver code-compliant, practical fire protection solutions from schematic design through construction. This role involves leading project teams, coordinating with architects and stakeholders, performing hydraulic calculations and system design, and providing on-site support during construction.Key ResponsibilitiesLead fire protection design for commercial, retail, grocery, and multifamily projects, including sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, smoke control, and life-safety systems.Serve as the Project Engineer / technical lead on multiple concurrent projects, managing scope, schedule, budgets, deliverables, and client communications.Collaborate closely with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and owners to integrate fire protection solutions into building designs and coordinate interfaces with architectural systems.Prepare and review plans, specifications, hydraulic calculations, shop drawings, and design documentation to ensure compliance with NFPA standards, IBC, local codes, and owner requirements.Perform peer reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on fire protection designs and drawings for constructability and code compliance.Provide construction phase support including site visits, submittal reviews, RFI responses, witness testing and commissioning, and issue resolution.Mentor and train junior engineers and designers, delegate tasks, and foster technical development and best practices within the team.Participate in business development activities including proposal preparation, scope development, and client presentations to support growth in commercial and multifamily sectors.Maintain project documentation, coordinate with permitting authorities, and ensure timely delivery of review and permitting packages.QualificationsBachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in fire protection, mechanical, civil, or ability to obtain reciprocity where required.Proven experience as a Project Engineer or technical lead on fire protection projects, with demonstrated leadership on commercial, retail, grocery, or multifamily buildings.Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and standards (NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 72, IBC) and local jurisdictional requirements.Hands-on experience performing hydraulic calculations, sprinkler and standpipe system design, fire alarm system design, and smoke control strategies.Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit (ideally Revit MEP), hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS, SprinkCAD, Elite), and Microsoft Office.Demonstrated ability to coordinate with architects and MEP teams strong Architecture collaboration skills required.Excellent project management skills and experience managing budgets, schedules, and client expectations in an engineering firm environment.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience producing clear design documentation and presenting to clients and authorities having jurisdiction.Ability to perform site visits, construction observation, and problem-solving during field conditions.Experience in design for commercial, retail, grocery, and multifamily projects is highly desirable and considered a strong plus.BenefitsVacation/PTOMedicalDentalVision
