Grants Accountant - Remote

This position is a five-year grant funded role, funded through September 30, 2030. Continuation of the position is contingent upon grant funding and will conclude when funding for the grant ends or at the end of the grant period. Position Summary The Grants Accountant will be responsible for the financial management, compliance, and reporting of the Charter Schools Program (CSP) Charter Management Organization (CMO) Expansion and Replication Grant. This role ensures accurate accounting, monitoring and documentation of all grant-related expenditures in accordance with federal regulations (EDGAR, 2 CFR Part 200), Department of Education requirements, and organizational policies. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain accurate financial records for all CSP CMO-grant related expenditures in compliance with federal regulations (EDGAR, 2 CFR Part 200) Ensure proper allocation with allowable use of funds in accordance with the approved grant budget and federal cost principles. Monitor spending to ensure costs are reasonable, necessary, and properly documented. Prepare and submit required interim and annual financial reports to the U.S. Department of Education and other stakeholders. Prepare reports which track month and YTD activity and distribute to appropriate members of the organization Create federal drawdowns and reimbursement requests in a timely manner and submit to the grants manager for review and submission. Reconcile funds received with expenditures and maintain audit-ready documentation. Implement and monitor internal financial controls and ensure grant compliance and safeguard assets. Work closely with school leadership, program staff, and external partners to ensure financial activities align with grant objectives. Prepare for and participate in external audits, monitoring visits, and site reviews. Ensure timely resolution of any audit findings or compliance issues. Coordinate financial closeout activities at the end of the grant period. Ensure all expenditures are properly recorded, reconciled, and reported prior to September 30th. Qualifications, Competencies, and Strengths Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field at minimum. Experience: 3-5+ years of accounting work experience. Experience with grant accounting in education preferred. MBA or CPA Preferred. Special Skills: Commitment to the philosophy and mission of Great Hearts. Superior written and verbal communication skills; oriented towards detail, thoroughness, and accuracy. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge is preferred. Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and to effectively apply this knowledge to tasks at hand. Ability to act with limited supervisory oversight. Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Blackbaud Financial Edge system experience a plus Provide excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Additional Requirements Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card. Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
