Quality Engineer – Dimensional
SIMWON NA Corp. is a tier-one auto body parts manufacturer in Kyle, Texas. The Quality Engineer – Dimensional is responsible for ensuring dimensional quality and process capability of stamped automotive components. This position will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Tooling, and customers to identify dimensional issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Monitor and maintain dimensional quality of hot stamping and cold stamping components.
* Analyze dimensional inspection data, CMM results, gauge results, and other measurement data to identify trends and process variation.
* Develop and maintain dimensional inspection standards, procedures, and control methods.
* Support development and implementation of Control Plans, PFMEA, inspection standards, and quality documentation.
* Conduct root cause analysis for dimensional defects using tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and other problem-solving methodologies.
* Lead or support corrective and preventive actions related to dimensional quality issues.
* Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Tooling teams to identify and correct process, die, fixture, and equipment-related dimensional issues.
* Support dimensional validation during new product launches and engineering changes.
* Coordinate dimensional inspection activities, including CMM, vision systems, gauges, fixtures, and other measurement equipment.
* Review GD&T requirements and ensure manufacturing and inspection processes meet drawing specifications.
* Analyze capability studies, SPC data, and measurement results to verify process stability and capability.
* Support MSA / Gage R&R studies and ensure measurement systems are appropriate for dimensional requirements.
* Participate in APQP, PPAP, FAI, and customer quality activities.
* Prepare and maintain quality reports, dimensional layouts, inspection results, and corrective action documentation.
* Work directly with customers and suppliers when addressing dimensional quality concerns.
* Support customer audits, internal audits, and quality system requirements.
* Identify opportunities to reduce dimensional variation, scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
* Provide technical guidance and training to production and quality personnel regarding dimensional requirements and inspection methods.
* Support continuous improvement activities to improve process capability and overall product quality.
*Required Qualifications*
* Minimum *5 years of quality engineering experience*, preferably within automotive manufacturing, stamping, metal forming, or a similar manufacturing environment.
* Strong understanding of *dimensional quality control and inspection processes*.
* Strong knowledge of *GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)*.
* Experience interpreting engineering drawings and customer specifications.
* Experience with CMM and/or other dimensional inspection equipment.
* Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
* Experience with SPC, process capability (*Cp/Cpk*), MSA, and Gage R&R.
* Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, and PPAP.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work effectively with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling, and customers.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Education*
* A bachelor's degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
* *Relevant education is not required if the candidate has 5+ years of directly applicable quality engineering experience.*
* Candidates with less than 5 years of relevant experience are expected to have at least a *bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field*.
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Automotive Tier 1 supplier experience.
* Experience with stamped automotive body and structural components.
* Experience with *CMM programming and dimensional measurement systems*.
* Strong working knowledge of GD&T and automotive drawing standards.
* Experience with CATIA, PolyWorks, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar dimensional/metrology software.
* Experience with customer-specific requirements and automotive quality standards.
* Experience with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
* ASQ CQE or similar quality certification is a plus.
* Experience working with OEM customers such as Tesla, Hyundai, Ford, GM, or similar automotive manufacturers.
*Physical / Work Environment*
* Ability to work in a manufacturing plant environment and spend significant time on the production floor.
* Ability to work around stamping presses, automated equipment, and other manufacturing operations while following all safety requirements.
* Must comply with applicable PPE and plant safety requirements.
* Occasional overtime, weekend work, or travel may be required based on production and customer requirements.
