OverviewAs a member of the Northwest Capital Management (NWCM) senior leadership team, the Controller will be the architect of our financial infrastructure during a period of significant growth. This role balances high-level financial strategy and advisory with the technical execution of daily accounting operations. The position requires routine interaction with the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and the credit union’s independent accountants and regulators. The Controller will oversee all financial reporting and accounting functions across multiple business lines, including Wealth Management, Insurance, and Real Estate Settlement.ResponsibilitiesTrain and supervise direct reports and ensure all team members are well trained and proficient in all assigned dutiesAssign, direct, coordinate and review work performed by staffCollaborate with senior leadership across business lines to support operational and financial objectivesDirect all general ledger activities, including month-end close, intercompany transactions, and eliminating entriesOversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements with all subsidiary companiesDirect day-to-day accounting activities, including:General ledger managementAccounts payablePayroll coordination with parent company HR departmentFixed asset accountingCommission calculation for advisors and insurance agentsMaintain commission calculation softwareOversee cash management and banking relationshipsEnsure proper maintenance of books and records in compliance with regulatory requirementsLead or support accounting system migrations, integrations, and process improvementsEvaluate and improve accounting workflows, controls, and reporting efficiencyLead annual budgeting and forecasting, provide detailed monthly variance analysis and financial insights to guide executive decision-makingOversee the quarterly FOCUS filings for the broker dealerPay and file biannual SIPC report for broker dealerFile annual Property reports with County of Fairfax and Business and Professional Licenses with Town of HerndonManage annual broker-dealer and corporate auditsPrepare broker dealer yearend financial report including footnotesReview and approve corporate yearend financial report including footnotesComplete annual NCUA CUSO Registrations for all subsidiariesPerform research and analysis and prepare special reports for the Chief Executive Officer and other business line stakeholdersPrepares reports for and reviews the compilation of the bimonthly Board packagesMaintain a reporting relationship with the Vice President/Controller of Northwest Federal Credit UnionRemains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)Perform all other related duties as assignedQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance requiredMinimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a financial institution (RIA or Broker Dealer)Minimum 5 years in a supervisory/leadership roleExpertise in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and WordIn depth knowledge of GAAPNo task too small attitude—equally comfortable presenting to the board, building spreadsheets or reconciling accounts.Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsPreferredCPA Advanced proficiency in Sage 50 and/or Prologue Additional CompensationNorthwest Federal offers a comprehensive and inclusive benefits program, which includes medical, dental and vision plans for you and your family, 4 weeks paid vacation, 12 paid holidays, 24 hours of paid volunteer time, parental leave, company paid disability and life insurance, and a generous 401(k) plan with up to 7% employer match.EEO NoticeNorthwest Federal Credit Union is an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or any other classification protected by law.NWFCU complies with federal and state disability laws and makes reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities.
