Financial Controller

Our client, a major Real Estate firm in the Northern Virginia area is seeking a candidate to lead their Accounting team as the Controller.ResponsibilitiesLead all corporate accounting functions, including general ledger, monthly close, consolidations, and financial reportingOversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAPManage accounting for development projects, joint ventures, intercompany transactions, and investment activityEnsure accuracy of account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules across multiple entitiesPartner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning initiativesDrive process improvements and strengthen internal controls, policies, and accounting proceduresCoordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and third-party consultantsSupport technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standardsAssist with debt compliance reporting, investor reporting, and banking relationshipsMentor and develop accounting staff while helping scale the accounting function alongside company growthCollaborate cross-functionally with development, construction, asset management, and operations teamsSupport ERP optimization and accounting systems enhancementsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance requiredCPA strongly preferred7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferredExperience within real estate development, real estate investment, construction, or related industries preferredStrong understanding of GAAP, consolidations, and corporate accounting processesExperience managing multi-entity environments and complex organizational structuresProven ability to lead month-end close and financial reporting processesStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environmentExperience with ERP systems such as Yardi, MRI, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar platforms preferred
