The Nurse Navigator functions to provide access to quality care for cancer patients/families. This is accomplished through expert oncology nursing practice in the areas of care giving, coordination, consultation, education and research (ONS Position Statement on Quality Care, 2007). The Nurse Navigator, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team assists patients along the continuum of care from abnormal findings, diagnosis and through survivorship.
