Senior Accountant
Senior AccountantOur client in the financial services industry is looking for a senior accountant in the Richmond, Virginia area who is highly motivated, highly responsible, and a task-ownership candidate who has an exemplary attention to detail, can organize day-to-day accounting tasks, and manage deadlines. Candidates should have strong accounting experience and excellent problem solving for account reconciliations.Job Responsibilities:Perform journal entries and complex account reconciliations including identification and remediation of all issues in compliance with audit requirements.Play a lead role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes, including preparation of division and segment packs to be presented to Finance leadership and business management.Perform the accurate and timely recording of loss reserve data into ledger and the analysis of loss ratio results.Facilitate actuarial review of loss reserves and reconciliation to IBNR meeting projections.Assist with the preparation of income statement and balance sheet packages and related comprehensive analysis for variances and trends.Complete intercompany wire settlements and balancing of intercompany accounts.Work with Manager to provide guidance, instruction, mentoring, and leadership to junior team members for purpose of achieving functional goals and objectives.Participate in the internal and external audit process.Work closely with other functional areas (i.e., corporate accounting & reporting, statutory reporting, business support, disbursements, treasury, actuarial, reinsurance and program accounting) to resolve issues and support achievement of business goals.Assist with monitoring and interpreting emerging accounting guidance and implement new accounting and disclosure standards as appropriate.Assist with the preparation of insurance company financial statements and ensure compliance with statutory guidance and regulatory deadlines.Collaborate with teammates and initiate ideas with management to identify, design, and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness.Participate in other strategic accounting and business projects as they arise.Education:Bachelor's degree in accounting requiredWork Experience2-3+ years of accounting experienceExperience in the insurance industry preferredSkill Sets:Strong computer skills including a high degree of proficiency within Excel. Experience with Oracle applications preferredExperience with PowerPoint desiredHigh degree of flexibility and responsiveness to change in a fast-paced environmentDetail-oriented with strong organizational skillsAdvanced written and verbal communication skillsAbility to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlinesStrong research, analytical, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work successfully both in teams and independently
