Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Wilmington, North Carolina.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: Med SurgDiscipline: RNStart Date: ASAPDuration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Nights, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: Mar 9, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology night shift position requiring ONC certification and chemotherapy administration competency.DetailsWork in a hospital-based Medical Surgical Oncology unitPrimarily care for patients with general med/surg diagnoses and oncology historiesShift is nights, 3x12 hours (18:45–07:15), every other weekend requiredPatient ratios are typically 1:6, with higher ratios possible during census surgesFloating required to similar inpatient units, inpatient holding in the ED, or other care locations as neededCall is required only if called off on a prescheduled shiftExpected to serve on Storm Team or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disastersUnit uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication managementUnit census is typically 42 patientsRequirementsActive NC or Compact RN license required at time of startMinimum of 2 years recent inpatient Med/Surg experienceONC certification and ability to administer chemotherapy requiredBLS certification requiredProficiency with Epic charting and Pyxis medication systems requiredSkills required include colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC line care, heparin and insulin administration, post-surgical drain management, chest tubes, wound care, and non-invasive airway managementMust pass EKG testing prior to startAbility to attend 24 hours (2 shifts) of unit orientationCandidates must be comfortable with floating as describedApplicants who are current or former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must have a 12-month separation before considerationCandidates must be able to provide two professional references from the past 12 monthsAdditional InformationResponsible for managing med/surg and oncology patient populations, with chemotherapy and biotherapy administration as neededMust attend monthly staff meetings and complete required online and in-person modules before startScrub colors are navy blue and whiteNo RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; must work 2 out of 3 major holidaysFloating is to be expected based on census and skill set, and candidates must have no restrictions on floatingTravel pairs are permitted if working on different unitsFirst-time travelers will be considered for this roleCandidates living within 50 miles of the facility will be offered a local rateAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-672511.
