The Mechanical Engineer will be a member of the Small Commercial Meters Value Stream team acting as a Value Stream Product and Quality Engineer. In this role, the engineer will complete design and analysis projects while working closely with mechanical, software, and electrical engineers, as well as cross functional groups like marketing, sales, sourcing, quality, testing, and manufacturing. They will also monitor the quality of manufactured goods in the value stream to eliminate errors, improve processes and support a Lean approach to a Zero Defect culture.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesApply fundamental engineering principles in a practical manner to achieve solutions. Project types include specification creation, component selection, structural analysis, root cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), computer aided design (CAD) work, research and development (R&D) and production procedures and testing, regulatory standard interpretation, voice-of-customer interpretation, controls and data acquisition, data processing, optimization, and feasibility studies.Excellent written and verbal skills are required. The engineer will author technical documentation and make presentations or participate in meetings to effectively communicate while keeping intended audience in mind. Creation of assembly, cable, & wiring diagram drawings requires electrical schematic and specification interpretation.Use PTC Creo & AutoCAD to create and revise drawings and BOMS including the following types: machining, assembly, general arrangement, labels, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and cable/harness. The engineer may be required to package and review work of designer draftsmen.Understand and show compliance with product requirements.Utilize specifications, manuals, catalogues, datasheets, online tools & other data to design or select parts.Design product variations based on input from vendors, marketing, sales, quality, manufacturing, testing, & customer support representativesLearn and use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software like document control workflows, parts database queries, shared drives, and a quality management system.3-D print concepts.Consider design details like ease-of-manufacture, cost, obsolescence, function feasibility, and backwards-compatibility. Consider revision impact like disposition of raw material, work in progress, and field parts.Responsible for Non-Conforming Material and its proper disposition.Lead customer complaint investigation and corrective actionsLead or support root cause investigations; drive problem solving efforts for quality issuesSupport a 5S environmentServe as extended Quality Team member on product development projects as well as integration and remediation projects.Apply design control and regulatory knowledge to provide guidance to product development teams to ensure the quality and robustness of design inputs, design requirements, essential design outputs, etc. during all phases of product development.Participate in problem solving, requirements development, architectural and design reviews for product changes and enhancements.Provision and provide input to the creation of design controls (e.g. requirements setting, work instruction, training, FMEA).Support risk management activities including, but not limited, to product performance analysis on similar products.Participate in and co-ordinate the evaluation of new products, assuring the safety and efficacy of the devices.Maintain successful relationships with supply, engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory departments.Lead and actively engage with project teams, customers, and suppliers to support Kaizen activitiesManage at least 1 Quality InspectorTraveling is 10% (visit suppliers and customers)Required SkillsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university5+ years of related experience like a design role in a manufacturing environment where tasks like machining, assembly, and testing are done.
