Salary : $50,484.45 AnnuallyLocation : Montrose, COJob Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Public WorksDivision: StreetsOpening Date: 12/05/2025FLSA: Determined by PositionBasic Purpose of the JobUnder general direction, performs heavy manual labor and equipment operation for the repair, maintenance and construction of city streets and storm drain systems. Keeps equipment clean and in good working order. The list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)A23:A37 drains, crack sealing, completing assigned work orders, basic landscaping and irrigation repairs, sign, post and banner installation, special projects and assisting other departments in similar or related work.Participate in snow removal operations including removal of snow and ice from roadways, pedestrian areas, and parks as directed. Operate a single or tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander; applying chemicals, abrasives, and other ice control products.Install and maintain traffic control devices for construction work zone safety. Maintain knowledge of MUTCD regulations.Operate a wide variety of equipment including but not limited to: dump trucks, water trucks, chipper/shredders, roller compactors, backhoes, street sweepers, snowplows, front-end loaders crack sealer, skid steer and related attachments. Perform daily equipment safety and maintenance checks.Operate small power equipment including pneumatic jackhammer, chainsaws, demo saws, and compactors.Handle inquiries from and situations with members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. Report complaints to supervisory personnel immediately.Train lower level street maintenance workers and seasonal employees.Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance including daily pre-trip and post-vehicle inspections. Keep equipment clean and in good working condition.When assistance is needed in Trash and Recycle Division drive automated sanitation/recycling collection truck collecting common trash and recyclable material from residential and commercial containers.Core Beliefs:Core beliefs are deeply held values and assumptions that guide individuals in the workplace. We have six Core Beliefs: Respect, Ethics, Leadership, Accountability, Transparency, Excellence in Service (RELATE).Job Requirements:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); supplemented by specialized training in construction and maintenance technology of public streets.Experience performing public works operations, construction and maintenance work in the assigned area of responsibility.Knowledge of standard construction practices relating to transportation and storm drain systems.This position is subject to non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.):Current Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver's license preferred; must be able to obtain within 90 days of start date; must have acceptable driving record.Entry - Traffic Control Flagger Certification within one (1) year.Mid - Completion of CLTAP Roads Scholar I.Senior - Completion of CLTAP Roads Scholar II.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentRequires ability to perform heavy manual labor. Strenuous physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer, and use of hands to handle small parts; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Requires driving and walking during inclement weather. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.Late applications will not be accepted.
