Position Overview:
In this role, the Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst will play a critical part in managing compliance and minimizing tax exposure. You will work across various teams within the organization and liaise with external business contacts. Responsibilities include preparing and filing monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, ensuring month-end close processes are completed on time, maintaining exemption certificate compliance, and supporting tax audits. The role also involves conducting detailed technical research and advising on strategies to reduce tax liabilities. Additionally, staying informed about changes in tax laws and business activities to guide the company’s tax strategies is crucial.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and ensure the timely submission of all sales and use tax returns, including monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.
Oversee the management of exemption certificate software and tax determination applications, promptly addressing any potential exposures.
Assist in government-led sales and use tax audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
Ensure all month-end close processes are completed efficiently and within deadlines.
Review purchase invoices to determine the appropriate taxation, identifying areas for improvement and conducting reverse audits when necessary.
Provide strategic advice to the Sales & Use Tax Supervisor on minimizing tax exposure and optimizing compliance.
Conduct thorough technical research and document findings to support tax positions.
Handle additional duties as assigned, contributing to the department's overall objectives.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
A minimum of 3 years of sales and use tax experience in a Corporate Tax environment or Public Accounting is essential.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in a manufacturing setting, with familiarity in using OneSource Tax Determination and Compliance.
Proficiency with certificate management software is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), and tax research tools like CCH.
Excellent analytical abilities, coupled with strong organizational and communication skills.
High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Capable of working independently under the direction of the Sales & Use Tax Supervisor, with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
Physical and Work Environment Demands:
The role requires regular use of hands to manipulate objects, speaking, and listening. It may involve standing, walking, and occasionally lifting items up to 25 pounds. The position is primarily computer-based, requiring long periods of sitting and close vision work. Some travel may be required.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, with a background that includes both Corporate Tax and Public Accounting. They should possess a Bachelor's degree and have the capability to handle the demands of a mid-senior level position. While management experience is not required, the role demands a proactive individual with strong tax expertise and a willingness to travel occasionally.
