Job Title:School CounselorContract Length: 195 DaysReports To:PrincipalSupervises:Primary Role:To help all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career/vocational developmentQualifications:Minimum of a Masters DegreeCurrent North Carolina counseling licensePrevious counseling experience with children is preferredSkills:Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of student programsHighly organized and attention to detailAbility to multi-task giving priority to the most important dutiesStrong oral and written communication skillsFriendly and able to interact professionally and positively with staff, students, parents, and community membersComputer skills should include, at a minimum, keyboarding, email, databases, Word, and ExcelDuties and Responsibilities:Follow all Board policiesMaintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff informationEstablish the school counseling program and develop activities and resources to implement the programCoordinate counseling services for studentsProvide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of studentsConsult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and other staff members to assist in meeting the needs of studentsMonitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitates appropriate interventionsAdhere to the ethical standards of the counseling professionProvides intervention strategies to teachersMay serve as a 504 Coordinator or a member of an IEP teamCoordinate the efforts of support services and outside agenciesFollow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse or neglectOther duties, as assigned, by supervisor/administrator.Schedule and attend home visits.Ability to be mobile around the facilities for two buildings on one campus.Create and assist with implementation of Behavior Plans for SWD and Gen Ed students.The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
