Job Title: Engineer II – Materials ScienceLocation : St. Paul, MNDuration : 6 month (Possible Extension)Position SummaryThe Engineer II will support device production, R&D, and regulatory submissions through material assessments within the Science & Technology Materials Group lab. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and execution of study plans in a regulated environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and effective in problem-solving within a dynamic setting.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct material characterization using techniques such as metallography, optical microscopy, SEM/EDS, microhardness testing, Raman spectroscopy, and FTIRPerform laboratory testing and analysis to support project teamsCollaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams to design and execute study plansAnalyze data and prepare technical reportsDocument experiments in compliance with regulated (GMP) requirements using electronic notebook systemsCore CompetenciesStrong understanding of materials science principles and analytical techniquesHands-on laboratory experience with analytical instrumentationEffective problem-solving and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication and technical writing skillsQualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field1–3 years of relevant laboratory experienceExperience with materials characterization techniquesFamiliarity with GMP documentation practicesPreferred:Experience with biomaterials (e.g., nitinol, stainless steel, titanium, polymers) and their biological interactionsExposure to medical device or regulated industry environmentsWork EnvironmentLaboratory setting with standard safety protocolsHandling of laboratory chemicals and biological materialsCombination of sitting and standing during work
