Details Stepdown/PCU-level unit in an acute care hospital setting 32-bed Med/Tele unit with PCU overflow capacity Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID/BiPAP, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 (occasional 1:5–6 on nights); PCU-level overflow care is 1:3 RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine RNs manage BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo in addition to troubleshooting RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry strips; portable monitors and room monitors are available, with a monitor tech at the nurses' station EMR is Epic (experience preferred) 12-hour shifts, 7a–7p or 7p–7a Day shift position; rotating to nights will not occur more than once per week Every other weekend required Every other holiday required First to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, Med/Surg for full assignment, and some ER holds/boarding No on-call or standby requirement 13-week contract Requirements Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted Minimum 2 years of RN experience required PCU experience is required Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips is required Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Additional Information This is primarily a telemetry and cardiac-focused unit with PCU-level overflow responsibilities A charge nurse is present on both shifts and may occasionally carry a light patient load of 2–3 patients Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10 Orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent assignment beginning that Sunday Any scrub color is acceptable RTO of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved First-time travelers are welcome to apply A manager interview is required as part of the selection process American Traveler Job ID P-692730.
