Manager Logistics

Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter Technology's wrought, and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing.Principal Purpose of Position:The Logistics Manager is responsible to manage the logistics & distribution program at Carpenter Technology Corporation to support our internal and external customers. The qualified candidate will be an energetic person, ready to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment and will have assignments that can be moderately complex in nature. They will coordinate and monitor company materials as they move through the global logistics life cycle, utilizing various business tools to optimize shipping and transport processes. Responsibilities overseeing order shipments; responding to inquiries originating from different internal/external parties; management of logistics service providers and providing support to global clients. The ideal candidate is independent, self-motivated, and organized. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills as well as effective problem-solving skills. Development of positive working relationships through proactive service is equally as essential to be successful within our organization.Responsibilities include:Maintain a safe and organized work environmentDevelop, communicate, and implement supply chain strategies that will meet and exceed Carpenter Technology's domestic and international reliability measures.Provide leadership and direction across multiple functions, warehousing operations, common carrier and dedicated freight and transportation services, conversion services, and procurement of production supplies both domestically and internationally, to maximize customer satisfaction and financial performance.Develop and implement strategies for the delivery of product direct to customer, to the distribution center, and intra-plant locations to meet customer and corporate financial requirements.Develop and implement strategies to inventory, service, and distribute product in the distribution centers, between DC locations, and to the end customer.Align the supply chain resources and key communication links needed to support delivery and distribution services goals across Carpenter and third-party service providers.Work with sales and manufacturing and third-party logistics providers to develop and implement processes, procedures and measures for designing and servicing our transportation and distribution network to balance supply chain resources with supply chain requirements to optimize the performance of the business both domestically and internationally.Provide coaching and development opportunities across multiple functions.Manage the daily freight & distribution operations which includes communications with internal and external customers, service providers, customer service, and manufacturingEstablish and maintain good working relationships with freight forwarders and transportation providersIdentify, lead, and participate in continuous improvement projectsManage product and logistics suppliers to fulfill Carpenter Technology's supply chain needsEffectively resolve problems by utilizing internal and external resources and by determining best course of actionRun daily planning meetings to review ship dates, back-orders, and resolve any challenges preventing orders from shippingCreate monthly vendor forecasts and carrier allocation plans to optimize transportation flows while managing costsManage carrier performance data to ensure compliance with service level agreementsPeriodically audit documentation for accuracy and complianceProvide the highest quality of customer support while developing time sensitive and cost-effective routings/quotationsBuild relationships with customers, offices, overseas and domestic agents, and service providersAnalyze transportation methods and procedures to provide cost effective service and timely delivery of productSecure competitive freight rates to support shipping operationsUse/Apply data mining techniques and analysis to provide proactive and timely information to support management in the decision-making processesCreate reports on transportation cost trends, carrier utilization and effectiveness, develop and monitor reports for freight and logistics cost driversMaintain & communicate best practices both internally and externally for continuous process improvement in the Logistics DepartmentDevelop internal policies and proceduresMaintain communication with vendors, buyers, Customs, custom brokers, forwarders, and steamship lines, along with internal and external customers to enhance productivity, compliance, and relations for business accuracyNegotiation of spot ratesPerform all other duties and special projects as assignedEducation and/or Training:Bachelor's Degree RequiredMinimum of 5 years managerial or supervisory experience.Prior work experience in logistics/supply chain management/freight forwarding industry is requiredProficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and ExcelDetailed oriented, analytical, and able to multitaskMust work well individually and as part of a teamWorking knowledge of customs process and export regulationsWorking knowledge of domestic processes and regulationsWorking knowledge of DOT regulationsWorking knowledge of international shipping methods and IncotermsWorking Knowledge of Export Cargo documentation requirementsWorking knowledge of small package courier shipping systems (UPS, FedEx)Strong inter-departmental communication skillsProactive problem identification and solving skillsKeen attention to detailThrives in a fast-paced environmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasksRelevant Work Experience:* 5 years of experience
