Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations for their organization. This individual will serve as a key financial leader, partnering closely with executive leadership while also remaining actively involved in the details of accounting and financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings a strong balance of leadership and execution, with the ability to mentor and develop an accounting team while also rolling up their sleeves to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement of financial processes. This role requires a proactive, solutions-oriented approach within a fast-paced, project-based environment.This role is fully on-site in Portland, Oregon.Controller ResponsibilitiesOversee and participate in daily accounting operations, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and job cost accounting.Lead the month-end close and financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clarity.Mentor and develop the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and support to strengthen overall performance.Maintain and improve internal controls and processes, ensuring alignment between subledgers and the general ledger.Partner with operations and leadership on job costing, project reporting, and financial performance.Monitor cash flow and financial results, providing clear, actionable insights to support decision-making.Support budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis across projects and business lines.Build and maintain strong relationships with banking and external partners, and support audit activities as needed.Controller QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.Construction industry or project-based accounting experience required.Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop an accounting team in a hands-on environment.Experience with construction ERP systems (Viewpoint or similar) preferred.Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.Effective communicator with the ability to partner across teams and support leadership initiatives.
