Industrial Automation EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to design, implement, commission, and support industrial automation systems for process and manufacturing environments. The role will focus on SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLC and HMI development, industrial networking, motion control and drives, functional safety, and on-site commissioning and start-up support. The successful candidate will work across engineering, operations and vendor teams to deliver reliable, safe and optimized automation solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop and maintain control system architectures for SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to meet process and production requirements.Program, configure and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs to implement control strategies and operator interfaces.Develop and integrate industrial networks (Ethernet/IP and other industrial protocols), ensuring robust communication between controllers, I/O, drives and SCADA/DCS systems.Specify, configure and commission motion control systems, including servo drives and VFDs, and implement motion sequences and tuning.Implement and validate functional safety systems in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 62061, including safety PLCs, safety instrumented functions and safety lifecycle activities.Lead and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning and start-up activities, providing hands-on troubleshooting and optimization on-site.Work with mechanical and process engineers on pneumatics and hydraulics integration and ensure control solutions interface correctly with actuators and valves.Produce and maintain engineering documentation, wiring diagrams, control narratives, functional specifications, and test procedures.Collaborate with vendors, contractors and cross-functional teams to manage project schedules, scope and change control.Provide training, technical support and handover documentation to operations teams and support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.QualificationsMinimum 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, including SCADA and Distributed Control Systems.Proficient in PLC programming and HMI development and commissioning across multiple platforms.Strong experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP and related industrial communication protocols) and network troubleshooting.Hands-on experience with motion control, servo drives and variable frequency drives (VFDs).Proven experience with commissioning and start-up support, including FAT/SAT and field troubleshooting.Knowledge of functional safety standards and implementation (IEC 61508 / IEC 62061) and experience applying safety lifecycle practices.Familiarity with pneumatics and hydraulics and their control integration.Excellent problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills, with a safety-first mindset and ability to work on-site and travel as required.Preferred / Nice-to-have: experience with Siemens S7 PLCs.Preferred / Nice-to-have: programming skills in Python for automation tool development and data tasks.Preferred / Nice-to-have: prior experience in a steel mill or heavy industrial environment.BenefitsVacation/PTO Medical Dental Vision 401k Bonus Opportunities Email Your Resume In Word ToKylie.Mullins@CyberCoders.comLooking forward to receiving your resume through our website and going over the position with you.
