Employment Type:Full timeShift:Day ShiftDescription:PostingResponsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all age groups in a timely and accurate manner using appropriate venous, arterial, or capillary technique. All specimens are collected strictly following all related policies and procedures. As the face of the laboratory, staff are required to maintain professional behavior and technical skills and demonstrate well developed customer service skills. Independently performs select waived and moderately complex laboratory tests specifically trained for. Consults with director, supervisors, and pathologists when appropriate.Accurately identifies patients prior to collection of specimens using two patient identifiers as established by laboratory policy and appropriately labels and accessions these specimens. All data is recorded as required neatly and accurately.Knows the requirements of blood specimens to be obtained through the use of the Clinical Laboratory Testing Manual or other appropriate testing manuals.Collects blood specimens and other approved diagnostic specimens based on the orders received and obtains appropriate specimens following established laboratory protocols.Observes and enforces Safety and Infection Control policies and procedures. Assists in the corrective action of any hazards that may exist.Demonstrates a high level of customer service skills when interacting with patients, their families, and all clients.Works independently and organizes work to meet established guidelines and records, such as turn-around times, while maintaining patient confidentiality.Cleans and stocks the phlebotomy carts/trays and drawing rooms, maintaining a neat and orderly workplace.Participates in the orientation and training of new phlebotomists/staff.Performs clerical duties as required.Possesses basic working knowledge and use of the Laboratory Information System and the Hospital Information System.Responsible for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation specifically trained for. Communicates problems to appropriate staff members.Independently performs analysis to include waived and moderate complexity testing, for tests specifically trained for, to provide timely and accurate diagnostic information to healthcare providers.Analyze and document quality control data, makes judgments concerning the results, and takes appropriate action to maintain test accuracy and precision.Monitors the collection, transportation, storage, identification, and processing of specimens to ensure specimen integrity prior to testing. Takes appropriate action if acceptable criteria are not met. Recognizes deviation from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles and laboratory policies.Adheres to written laboratory policies and procedures, personnel policies, and administrative policies. Also performs work activities in a manner that ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.Maintain flexibility with laboratory scheduling to help fulfill staffing requirements.Interact with hospital staff, physicians, and clients in a professional manner.Actively participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and other continuing education to keep abreast of new technologies and changes in the lab.Maintain an adequate level of supply inventories.Participates in writing, revising, and reviewing laboratory policies and procedures.Serves on laboratory committees as requested by a supervisor.Performs other related tasks as delegated by a supervisor.Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.General Requirements:Associates or bachelor's degree in a science-related field such as a biological or chemical from an accredited institution preferred.High School diploma required.Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.Demonstrates professionalism and teamwork.Has knowledge of and can operate laboratory related computer software and systems.Our CommitmentRooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
