Marine Mechanic Technician (Running Gear / Hydraulics)

Job Description Job SummaryThe Marine Mechanic Technician performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment. The Mechanic Technician is responsible for testing equipment to assess the need for service, as well as performing various repairs and maintenance including the removal and reinstallation of mechanical components and performing optical alignments while following industry and best practices regarding safety standards.Key Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manualsRemove and reinstall various mechanical components and equipment on vessels including bow and stern thruster propellers, zincs, propellers, shafts, couplings, cutlass bearings, tides seals, foreign seals, struts, rudders, and rudder bearingsPerform dial indications and feeler gauge reports accuratelyBlue fit check propellers and couplings; fit and lap to taper to obtain proper contact/fitPerform laser alignments on shaft linesFloat bearings using optical and ChockfastRepairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valvesTest marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustmentsPerform routine maintenance and servicing of SeaKeeper gyrostabilizer systems in accordance with manufacturer guidelinesConduct system inspections, including cooling systems, hydraulic components, electrical connections, and mounting structuresStocks and assists in maintaining inventory of shop supplies, materials, tools, and equipmentMaintains clean, orderly, and safe work areas; properly maintains assigned equipment and toolsDocuments work performed dailyInteracts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor and staff, co-workers, guests, vendors, contractors, etc.Following company, industry, and best practices regarding safety standards (safe equipment usage, personal protective equipment, reporting)Performs other appropriate tasks and duties as assignedNote this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
