Community Services: Lead Lifeguard

Lifeguard PositionReports To: Aquatics Center Coordinator & Fitness and Aquatic Center SupervisorEssential Job FunctionsMaintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facilityAble to act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergencyProvides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical servicesPresents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer serviceAttends mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduledMaintains a clean facility performing house cleaning dutiesAssists Lifeguard personnel with knowledge of policies and procedures as well as departmental goals and objectivesAssists in the new lifeguard orientation processOccasionally assists with inservice trainingInventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Aquatics CoordinatorAssist Aquatics Coordinator as requestedEmployment RequirementsAbility to communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and other employees.Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible.Ability to be a team playerAbility to perform tasks requiring physical strength and/or stamina to effectively rescue victims, administer first aid, and CPR;Ability to perform work, which involves frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of heavy objects;Ability to hear and distinguish a variety of sounds in a noisy environment such as participants in need of assistance, whistles, or co-workers requesting assistance in a rescue effort;Ability to see patrons in need of assistance from any distances;Ability to speak loudly to warn program participants of impending dangerPreferred: Age 17 years or olderRequired: Previous lifeguard experienceRed Cross Lifeguard Certification (required)Working knowledge of lifesaving techniquesStrong swimming and life saving abilitiesSchedule and LocationShifts vary Monday through Sunday at the New Prague Fitness and Aquatic Center. This position would include approximately 20+ hours per week in the summer. Potential for some hours throughout the school year.TrainingAttendance at monthly/bimonthly staff trainings is required.
