Registered Nurse School - Audubon Charter

Job DescriptionThe Registered Nurse who works in the school setting is required to work with a high level of autonomy, as they are the only medical professional on campus. School nurses (RN) provide health education to staff and students, performs complex health procedures (PEG tube care, Emergency Trach Care, etc.) and delegates non-complex procedures to Medical Assistants (MA), Trained Unlicensed Personnel, Paraprofessionals (TUP), Unlicensed Diabetic Care Assistants (UDCA), and School Health Assistants (SHA). The school nurse (RN) is responsible for administering, counting, and storing medications for students. The school nurse (RN) makes supervisory rounds for the School Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPNs), MAs and SHAs, and completes the environmental survey at assigned campuses. Additionally, the school nurse (RN) performs all other health related tasks as necessary. The school nurse (RN) is responsible for training staff on how to use emergency medications such as EpiPens, ensures that the emergency equipment (i.e., AEDs) are in working condition.#CBResponsibilitiesMajor RolesAssess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to students with acute illness and injuries within Health Centers in Schools nursing guidelines.Refer to school resource or hospital emergency room when student's health problems exceed the realm of the RNs expertise.Orient new team members (as required), precepts student nurses.Communicate with parent/guardian, support staff and school faculty as necessary concerning the student's health status while maintaining confidentiality.Evaluate & update immunization records of each enrolled student.Provide preventive health education and counsel students, families and school staff on issues related to the child's health.Administer medications according to Nursing Protocol and physicians' orders.Perform hearing and vision screens.Collaboration and PartnershipInitiate and update student's plan of care as requested by Pupil Appraisal Services or Exceptional Student Services within established guidelines.Other dutiesPerform other related duties as assigned.QualificationsExperience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure:Experience/Education: Graduate from Accredited RN ProgramSkills: Able to work with a wide range of professional & non-professional staff while maintaining flexibility & a positive attitude.Licensure: Current, unrestricted Louisiana State license as RN CPR CertifiedAbout UsFMOL Health is a leading health care innovator in Louisiana and Mississippi.
