Temporary Seasonal PositionsPrince William Water is currently recruiting for the following temporary/seasonal (summer) positions. The length of these assignments varies and is also dependent on available workload. Temporary full-time seasonal positions (37.5 hours per week). Utility Worker AssistantPosition Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Ability to operate small equipment such as lawn mowers and weed trimmers. Ability to paint. Ability to work cooperatively with others as well as in a team environment. Assists maintenance crews in the absence of personnel. Perform other duties as assigned (i.e. wash trucks, clean shops, etc.) Some experience in grounds and building maintenance and/or painting. Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record according to Prince William Water policy. Other duties as assigned or required. Must be at least 18 years old. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Physical demands: The work is regularly active with periods of heavy exertion. Position requires workers to walk or stand for long periods; may lift and carry up to 60 pounds; climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; feel the size, shape and temperature of items; and operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak clearly, to see and hear clearly with or without correction, and to detect odors. Work environment: Primary work is performed in shop or field settings and outside. Employees are exposed to dirt and soil; unpleasant odors; working outside in hot and humid conditions, or in inclement weather; and to hazards in the work. Warehouse AssistantPosition Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Assists in the work of receiving, storing, and distributing. Issues supplies to users. Delivers inter-office mail and packages. Processes outgoing U.S. Mail. Secures postage meter after each use and advises supervisor of postage balance. Takes U.S. Mail to post office. Performs food delivery, room set up and other set up duties for special events. Performs routine maintenance of warehouse. Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record according to Prince William Water policy. Other duties as assigned or required. Must be at least 18 years old. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Physical demands: The work is regularly active and is performed in a warehouse. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, ladders or scaffolding; bend, kneel and crouch; hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is subject to frequent interruptions and workers are exposed to dirt and soil. Laboratory AssistantPosition Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Prepares samples for analysis. Conducts laboratory analysis of potable and wastewater samples (i.e., Alkalinity, Conductivity, total hardness, calcium, total suspended solids, and biochemical oxygen demand). Prepares media and reagents for analyses. Calibrates, performs general maintenance and troubleshoots both field equipment and laboratory equipment. Performs data entry and basic keyboarding tasks using Microsoft Suite and LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System). Other duties as assigned or required. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Physical demands: The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for short periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work required the ability to speak clearly and to see and hear clearly with or without correction. Work environment: Primary work is performed indoors in a standard office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is subject to frequent interruptions. This position may be required to field verify information using a GPS handheld. When working in the field, there is exposure to a variety of weather conditions, traffic and noise. Automotive AssistantPosition Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Perform light vehicle maintenance. Shuttle vehicles for emissions inspections. Pick up parts. Assist with auto inspections. Assist with work order documentation. Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record according to Prince William Water policy. Other duties as assigned or required. Must be at least 18 years old. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Physical demands: The work is regularly active and is performed in a warehouse. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, ladders or scaffolding; bend, kneel and crouch; hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. Field Services AssistantPosition Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Complete a variety of daily service orders utilizing a laptop and at times a meter reading handheld. Perform leak investigation to aide customers in determining cause of high usage. Identify any safety, maintenance or technical issues encountered while completing service orders and make the required repairs. Ability to work without close supervision. Must have excellent computer skills, be detail oriented and have good communication skills. Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record according to Prince William Water policy. Other duties as assigned or required. Must be at least 18 years old. Environmental Technician AssistantPosition Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Possess a general knowledge of water quality collection procedures. Ability to identify acceptable locations and water taps for sample collection. Ability to collect water quality samples for Free/Total Chlorine, Monochloramines, Free Ammonia, Nitrites, pH, ATP and Temperature. Ability to collect clean, aseptic water samples. Able to properly calibrate and use field testing equipment to properly monitor water quality. Able to properly calibrate and use laboratory equipment to properly monitor water quality. Ability to troubleshoot QA/QC issues associated with methods and instrumentation. Possess excellent time management skills. Ability to work cooperatively with others, as well as in a team environment. Possess knowledge of Microsoft software.
