Surgical Technician

Surgical TechnicianThe Surgical Technician is a vital member of the surgical and ophthalmic team, responsible for assisting the surgeon and providing direct intraoperative support to ensure safe, efficient, and successful surgical procedures. This role prepares the operating room, sterilizes instruments and equipment, establishes and maintains the sterile field, and assists surgeons by anticipating needs and passing instruments and supplies before, during, and after surgery. In addition, the Surgical Technician supports overall clinic operations through cross-training, management of the technical aspects of the operating room, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to promote high-quality patient care and operational efficiency. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare and maintain the operating room by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, functional, and sterile according to procedure and surgeon preference. Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, adhering to infection control and regulatory standards. Provide intraoperative support by passing instruments, anticipating surgeon needs, managing supplies, and ensuring procedural efficiency. Assist with pre-operative preparation and reinforce post-operative instructions as directed by the clinical team. Monitor the surgical environment and promptly report concerns related to patient condition, safety risks, or equipment malfunctions. Communicate clearly and professionally with surgeons, patients and support staff to ensure seamless surgical operations. Verify patient identity, procedure, and surgical site; assist with safe patient positioning, transfer, and comfort. Manage surgical inventory, stock supplies, and ensure appropriate handling and disposal of biohazard materials. Perform routine equipment checks and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed. Prepare and administer medications and surgical solutions within scope of practice and regulatory guidelines. Document and report procedural details, supply usage, incidents, or equipment concerns as required. Basic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification. Minimum of one year of experience providing intraoperative support, preparing surgical instruments, and maintaining sterile technique in an ophthalmic or medical practice setting. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication, collaboration, and time management skills. Ability to remain calm, focused and efficient under pressure. Physical ability to stand and move throughout the operating room for extended periods at a rapid pace. Open availability and reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience. Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent training preferred. 2-3 years of experience assisting a physician in an ophthalmic or medical practice setting. Pay Range: 26.71- 36.61 This posting is for an existing vacancy within our business.
