Director of Curriculum & Instructional Technology
Job TitleReports To: Superintendent Salary: Based on the salary schedule for 235 days. FLSA Status: Exempt Job Goal: To provide leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of the entire instructional program of Tuscumbia City Schools. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel. Qualifications:Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.Valid Alabama certification in Administration/Supervision.At least 3 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in public schools.Must complete a criminal background check through the Alabama State Department of Education at your own expense.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.Duties and Responsibilities:Attend Board meetings and submit reports/documents as required by the Superintendent and the Board.Attend professional development as required, including state-sponsored ARI training sessions for principals and other leadership personnel (requires travel, some overnight).Act as the Community Relations Liaison by representing the system in various community and Board committees and activities.Facilitate communication between the Alabama State Department of Education personnel, regional in-service reading coaches, principals, and building-level reading coaches.Facilitate all system professional development and assist all schools in acquiring and implementing effective, assessment-driven, job-embedded professional development that affects student achievement.Assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instruction program by maintaining effective instructional strategies and disseminates information regularly to the Board, administration, staff, and public.Assists in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction.Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction, and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district educational program.Works with the directors and building principals in the improvement of individual staff competencies.Communicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materials.Works with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade-level and departmental meetings, in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the system.Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school-wide MTSS framework.Encourages the development, publication, and use of new technology and instructional materials by the professional staff.Maintains a current curriculum manual to show graduation requirements, approved courses, credit allowed, and any pertinent information useful, along with a curriculum library for staff use.Observes teachers in their classrooms upon the request of principals, and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation.Use appropriate data to prepare, review, and evaluate programs, including results of district-wide testing.Assumes a leadership role in developing, implementing, and training classroom teachers on curriculum, including technology and software, for any course newly mandated by the legislature or the Board.Coordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum improvement.Oversees the implementation of new courses, grade placement of courses, credit allowance for courses, instructional materials, methods, programs, and graduation requirements, per state guidelines.Assumes a leadership role in the adoption of textbooks.Develop, maintain, and upgrade website and app content and functionality at the school and district level.Assist administrators and teachers with the identification, completion, and submission of appropriate grants.Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.Performs such other duties as may be assigned.The above statement reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job identified, and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent to the job.
