OverviewNext 150 Construction, a fully owned subsidiary of Gilbane is seeking a Safety Director II that will serve as the national thought leader for safety excellence, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and innovation across all business units. This role will report to the Corporate Director of Safety and work collaboratively with Next 150's leadership. This role will optimize performance of safety systems, fostering a spirit of continuous improvement and industry advancement. This position requires extensive travel and applicants located in close proximity to a Gilbane office is highly preferred.As a Top-10 ENR Contractor, Gilbane is a family-owned business with 45 offices that has been shaping communities since 1870. You will protect and promote the interests of both Gilbane and the client in all matters as well as demonstrating the personal characteristics of a developing leader.ResponsibilitiesStrategy DevelopmentLeads the planning, development, and execution of safety programs across assigned Divisions, ensuring alignment with corporate safety standards and overarching safety philosophySupports and articulates company mission, vision, and strategyAssists the Corporate Safety Director in developing and overseeing the implementation of annual Safety Strategic PlanProvides additional support to the Director of Corporate Safety to improve the effectiveness and consistency of the safety programAlong with the Corporate Safety Director, Gilbane University, and HR, identifies, creates, and delivers quality safety training to Next150 employees within their area of responsibilityPartners with business development to ensure seamless integration of safety strategies into client capture plans and account plans, establishing a common thread of safety excellence. Drives initiatives to optimize risk reduction and fatality prevention, with a strong emphasis on TRIR, DART, LITR, SIF prevention, and cost of risk. Leads efforts to strengthen client, partner, and industry relationships that position Gilbane as the "Builder of Choice."Analytics / Safety IntelligenceWorks in real time with Gilbane Insurance Group, Senior Management, Corporate and Division Safety Directors to identify loss leaders and effectively create safety procedures to reduce the number and severity of claims on all projectsEnsures Monthly Safety leading and lagging Indicator Reports are published for the Divisions within their area of responsibilityAnalyses trends in incidents, accidents, claims, unsafe behaviors, etc. to recommend and direct resources to mitigate hazards; Publish dashboards and heat maps w/ monthly executive reviews and quarterly updatesAnalyses Predictive Solutions Hammertech use and recommends improvementsCollaborates with Corporate Safety Director, Gilbane Technology Group and Business Intelligence to develop safety applications that support effective safety program implementation, adoption and useful trending analyticsBenchmark and pilot new safety technologiesSafety LeadershipSchedules and meets with Corporate Safety Director, Senior Management and Divisional Safety Directors on a regular basis to understand and support their needs, help troubleshoot challenges, create positive opportunities, and continue to train new employeesRegularly visit key projects within area of responsibility with Division Safety Directors to mentor, support development and ensure consistent application of safety program; organize minimum field presence and coaching expectations.Establishes subject matter expert subcommittees within the Safety Peer Group to tackle projects aimed at reducing incidents across GilbaneLeverages industry involvement to research and introduce safety best practices for possible inclusion in the company safety programProvides functional leadership and oversight to all Division Safety DirectorsLeads initiatives to embed safety as a core value through differing strategies and programs.Budget, Procurement & StandardizationResponsible for Next 150 safety budget; standardized PPE, life-safety systems, and technologyManage third-party providers master service agreementsSelf-Perform Program StewardshipSet standards and engineering controls for hoists/scaffolds, lifting/rigging/critical picks, fall protections, formwork/shoring, silica, confined space, temporary powerApprove procedures and equipment; ensure inspection/maintenance programs and documentationStaffingEnsures all divisions have qualified safety support at all levelsCollaborate with Human Resources to review compensation and talent management of safety job familyCreates and manages a safety mentor program to strengthen the safety department employeesCommunicationsSet fixed monthly / quarterly reporting package (KPI dashboard, corrective-action)Collaborates with Corporate Communications/ Human Resources Benefits and assists with posting in internal and external communications about safetyReinforces communication protocols for escalationsAssists Corporate Director of Safety as Safety Portal and Lessons Learned knowledge managerRegularly reviews and provides updates to improve the standard safety planTrainingOwn training matrix with LMS content (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR/AED)Requires >90% compliance and zero lapses for critical certificationsConducts Incident and Injury Free training and other safety related education as requested or required by the Divisions within their area of responsibilityUpdates Next 150's safety training modules to provide in-person training to improve all field employees' identification and correction of safety issues in the fieldRisk ManagementCollaborate with Corporate Risk Manager to ensure effective implementation of Insurance ProgramsReviews and ensure a project level response to all loss control inspections conducted on Gilbane projects by Insurance company representativesCollaborates with Corporate Legal to coordinate response and defense to OSHA, EPA or other regulatory authority citations, and personal injury or liability litigationRepresents Next 150 as subject matter expert in legal and regulatory appeals and actionsLeads serious incident investigations using factor analysis to identify root causes and systemic contributors, ensuring verified effectiveness of corrective actions and a strong focus on fatality prevention.Client Relationship ManagementCollaborates with Global Sales & Marketing Services to respond to client safety questionnaires, proposals and prequalification requestsTies safety role to pursuit win-rate contribution and owner safety scorecard performance; Owner specified reconciliation checklist during pursuitsRepresents Gilbane at key client meetings involving safetyIndustry Safety Leadership/InvolvementParticipates and represents Next 150 as directed at national industry conferences and groups, such as ASSP, NSC, BCSP, ANSI, AGC, ABC, CURT, NCSE, IIF HSE, etc.Actively pursues the applications for external industry Safety Awards.Assists the Corporate Safety Director with authoring, developing and representing Gilbane at industry presentations, publications, peer reviewed journals, and other venues/conferences.QualificationsAssociate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist preferredBS in Occupational Safety Management or Engineering10-15 years of relevant experienceOr equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of construction safety principles, techniques and methodsComprehensive knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations and policiesCapable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective actionStrong computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suiteNext 150 Construction Services has an unwavering focus on safety, the environment and caring about everyone involved in our work.Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.Next 150 Construction Services is not accepting unsolicited resumes from third party recruiters at this time.Next 150 Construction Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
