Open the door to a career at the SCDOR and discover why 93% of our employees see how their work contributes to the SCDOR’s success—by collecting 95% of South Carolina’s general fund, our team serves with purpose and impacts the success of our community.Learn more about why you should join our team at dor.sc.gov/careers .We Are Looking For Teammates Who AreKnowledgeable of accounting and auditing principles and practicesKnowledgeable in South Carolina and Federal tax lawsAble to establish and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external customersCommitted to customer service and interested in helping othersEager to use their knowledge of tax filing and payment requirements for income, corporate, sales, withholding, and additional taxes within set deadlinesWhat You Will DoAs a Lottery Compliance Auditor, you will serve as liaison between the Department of Revenue and the South Carolina Education Lottery, ensuring South Carolina retailers have met all tax obligations through regular examination and audit of tax filings as it relates to lottery.Primary Job Duties IncludeReviewing all South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL)applications to verify accuracy and completeness, ensuring consistency with the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR)system informationConducting complex audits focused on tax reporting and filing accuracyAnalyzing and interpreting data on the tax return to determine compliance, correcting errors, making system adjustments, and generating assessments as needed to determine any appropriate actionsConducting telephone and in-person conferences with taxpayers and/or their representativesActing as liaison between the SCDOR and the SCEL and serving as the primary contact to resolve system issues Collaborating with state and federal agencies as neededMaintaining the SCDOR database, regularly monitoring the flow of information between SCDOR and SCEL, and making recommendations to improve efficiencyPreparing monthly statistical reports relating to work functionPreparing monthly retailer invoices and submitting to SCEL for compliance feesServing as backup to the position of innocent spouse and assisting with innocent spouse applications as neededCreating, facilitating, and determining training for SCEL auditors based off outlined needs from the monthly review of filesEitherMinimum and Additional RequirementsAn associate's degree and experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or tax preparation/analysis ORA bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for the work experience ORRelevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR).
