This role is ideal for a handson survey professional who is highly versatile, technically advanced, and comfortable leading survey operations from preconstruction modeling through final asbuilts.This position requires strong design modeling capability, deep experience converting plans to buildable models, and the leadership skills to manage field crews and subcontract surveyors while maintaining clear communication with owners, designers, and internal project teams.Key ResponsibilitiesSurvey Leadership & OperationsLead all survey activities on projectManage, mentor, and develop survey crews and subordinate surveyorsCoordinate and oversee subcontracted surveyors and specialty survey servicesEstablish survey control, layout, staking, and verification for earthwork, utilities, structures, and pavingEnsure survey operations meet schedule, quality, and safety requirementsDesignBuild & ModelingSupport progressive and traditional DesignBuild projects from concept through constructionDevelop and manage 3D models for: EarthworkSiteworksLinear roadwayMachine control and automated gradingConvert plans and specifications into constructible modelsPerform modeling updates as design evolves and field conditions changeCollaborate closely with designers, engineers, and construction leadership to resolve conflictsTechnology & SoftwareAdvanced user of Trimble Business Center (TBC)Proficient in: SiteWorksEarthworksGPS and robotic total station workflowsManage digital survey data, surfaces, alignments, quantities, and machine control filesMaintain organized and accurate electronic survey records and filesCommunication & CoordinationServe as the primary survey point of contact for: Project ManagersSuperintendentsEngineersDesignersOwners and inspectorsCommunicate clearly across multiple parties to align design intent with field executionParticipate in project meetings and provide clear survey updates, risks, and solutionsPlanning, Organization & Task ManagementHighly organized and detailoriented with strong task tracking skillsPlan, track, and monitor survey tasks and deliverables across multiple work frontsAnticipate survey needs and proactively solve problems before they impact productionMaintain strong documentation, QA/QC, and asbuilt recordsQualificationsMinimum 5+ years of heavy highway / heavy civil survey experienceProven experience on DesignBuild projectsStrong understanding of roadway, earthwork, and infrastructure constructionAdvanced proficiency in Trimble Business CenterExperience with machine control modeling and field supportDemonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple prioritiesExceptional communication skills - written and verbalOrganized, selfdriven, and able to operate independently in fastpaced environmentsValid driver's license and ability to work in active construction environmentsPreferred ExperienceSurvey Manager or Senior Party Chief backgroundExperience supporting DOT highway projectsExperience coordinating with designers during progressive designAbility to adapt between office modeling and field execution seamlesslyAmes Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
