Assistant Controller

Assistant Controller PositionWe are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Assistant Controller to support the Corporate Controller across technical accounting, reinsurance accounting, accounting policy, internal controls, and tax compliance management. This role is ideal for a strategic, hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and is comfortable wearing multiple hats across the finance function. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in financial reporting, technical accounting, audit support, and process improvement initiatives while partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers. This is a hybrid role based in Atlanta, GA.What We Are Looking For:Strong technical accounting expertise with an insurance focusDetail-oriented leader with strong analytical skillsAbility to partner cross-functionally across finance, actuarial, tax, and auditComfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environmentProactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and efficiencyKey Responsibilities:Technical Accounting & Financial ReportingLead technical accounting research and application in compliance with U.S. GAAPSupport monthly close and preparation of financial statements and disclosuresProvide analytical support for monthly financial reporting packagesDevelop, maintain, and update accounting policies and proceduresReinsurance & Insurance AccountingOversee reinsurance accounting processes, including reserving in partnership with actuarial teamsEnsure accurate recording of premiums, claims, ceding commissions, and related transactionsManage carrier receivables and payables in coordination with fronting carriersExecute and ensure proper recording of insurance trust transactionsInternal Controls, Audit & ComplianceDocument and monitor internal controls related to financial reportingIdentify control gaps and drive process improvementsPartner with external auditors during auditsEnsure compliance with regulatory and accounting standardsTax, Systems & Process ImprovementManage relationships with external tax compliance providersCoordinate timely and accurate tax filings and resolve tax accounting mattersAssist with new client and program implementationsLead accounting requirements assessments for new programsDrive continuous improvements and efficiencies within accounting and financeRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA or equivalent certification preferred46 years of progressive accounting experienceStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and insurance accounting (ASC 944)Advanced Excel proficiencyExperience with General Ledger systems (Great Plains, MS Dynamics 365, or similar)Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills
