Contract Mental Health Specialist

Job Description The Mental Health Specialist will provide hands-on support to youth and young adults (ages 12–24) at Melabiz Community Hub through engagement, workshops, and day-to-day interaction. This role is focused on building relationships, supporting emotional wellness, and creating a safe, supportive environment for young people.This is not a traditional office-based role. We are looking for someone who can actively engage with youth, lead group activities, and be present in both structured programming and drop-in settings.This is a contract position through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension based on performance and program needs.Key Responsibilities:Build genuine relationships with youth through daily interaction, mentorship, and supportFacilitate and co-facilitate workshops focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and life skillsEngage with youth during drop-in hours, group programming, and leadership activitiesProvide non-clinical mental health support and guidanceSupport crisis situations through de-escalation and connecting youth to appropriate resourcesAssist with planning and leading group activities, discussions, and youth-centered programmingParticipate in light community outreach and engagement (events, partner sites, off-site programming)Collaborate with staff to support youth goals and overall program successMaintain basic documentation of participation and interactions as requiredQualifications:Experience working with youth, young adults, or high-risk populations (required)Strong ability to connect with youth in real, relatable waysExperience facilitating groups, workshops, or youth programmingKnowledge of mental health, trauma-informed care, or behavioral support strategiesAbility to remain calm and supportive in high-stress situationsStrong communication and teamwork skillsComfortable working in a fast-paced, youth-centered environmentPreferred (but not required):Background in social work, psychology, counseling, or related fieldExperience with justice-involved youth, foster care, or community-based programsCPR/First Aid or crisis intervention trainingAdditional Requirements:Must be available during program hours, including eveningsMust be comfortable working in both center-based and community settingsCompany DescriptionWe are passionate about creating safe, supportive, and empowering spaces for youth and families in our community.
