Assistant Project Manager

OverviewA leading electrical contractor in Chicago is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support large‑scale industrial and data center projects across the region.This role places you side‑by‑side with an experienced PM, developing the core skills required to independently manage major electrical construction project, often $50M–$100M+ in size.This is a career‑path position with structured development, hands‑on project exposure, and a clear track toward full Project Manager responsibility. ResponsibilitiesAssist the PM in delivering industrial and data‑center electrical projects from pre‑construction through closeoutManage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, procurement logs, testing records, and other documentationTrack schedules, constraints, progress, and field requirementsCoordinate with field crews, vendors, suppliers, GCs, and internal teams to maintain workflowSupport forecasting of labor, materials, and costs; maintain accurate financial trackingAssist with early project pursuits: quotes, drawing reviews, VE options, estimate summaries, and proposal prepHelp prepare bid packages and support estimating tasks when neededJoin client meetings, walkthroughs, and coordination sessions; support client‑facing communicationBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, GCs, subcontractors, and internal teamsSupport procurement of materials, equipment, and long‑lead items; track deliveries and lead timesMaintain project logs, compliance documentation, and quality recordsSupport safety, compliance, and project quality initiativesProvide day‑to‑day operational and administrative support to the Project ManagerQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field.3–5 years post‑graduate experience in construction; industrial electrical experience strongly preferred.Understanding of project delivery: bidding, schedules, COs, procurement, and field operations.Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.Proficiency with MS Office; exposure to Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Accubid, Primavera, etc., is a plus.Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.Ability to work on‑site 5 days per week in the Chicago area.CompensationBase salary: Up to $110,000 (DOE) Annual bonus: Competitive performance‑based structureHealthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverageRetirement: 401(k) with company matchCareer growth: Clear advancement path, structured training, and continuous professional developmentAdditional benefits: Strong support resources, mentorship, and long‑term career progression within a growing electrical contractor
