Camp Accompanist

WHO WE ARECamp Arena Stage is dedicated to the personal and creative growth of its campers, by providing excellent arts instruction in a joyful, supportive community. Campers are empowered to choose their own schedule from over 50 classes in theater, dance, music, visual arts, filmmaking and writing. We value being present, joyful, creative and kind.We know art has a product, but it is also a process full of mistakes and discoveries.We support one another and make a place that is safe to take risks and to grow.WHAT YOU'LL DOThe Accompanist at Camp Arena Stage provides piano accompaniment for four daily singing/musical theater classes and participates fully in other aspects of camp. The accompanist also provides piano accompaniment for campers in our daily Noontime Show. Strong sight-reading skills required. Familiarity with musical theater and pop repertoire preferred. Must be comfortable accompanying singers with a wide range of abilities.This role is Full-Time & Seasonal, 40 hours per week, for 6 weeks:June 29 - August 8, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. This includes one paid week of camp staff training followed by a 3-Week Session and a 2-Week Session. Saturday, August 8 is a camp clean-up day.Camp Arena Stage is a day camp located on the campus of Georgetown Visitation (1524 35th St. NW, Washington, DC). Free onsite parking is available. Children of staff members attend Camp Arena Stage for free.Accompany four classes each day for ages 8-12 and 12-15.Provide accompaniment for daily Noontime Show.Serve as a homeroom/small group leader for 8 campers OR be part of the team that runs carpool lines and the technical needs of our daily Noontime Show.Confer with campers about their performances for the Noontime ShowCo-lead a one-time recreation or arts activity each dayParticipate in a full week of on-site camp staff trainingContribute to a safe, supportive, collaborative arts community for campers and staffAttend brief faculty meetings on Thursdays from 4:15 - 4:45 p.m.Participate in a camp clean-up day on August 8.SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONSStrong sight-reading skills.Familiarity with musical theater/pop repertoire (preferred)Able to accompany singers with a wide range of ability, providing support and encouragementExperience working with young peopleAbility to plan and teach hands-on, age-appropriate recreational activities
