A student-focused leader will establish a culture of trust, partnership, and collaboration within the Athletic department and will insist on high expectations and care for all student athletes. This leader will set ambitious goals with all coaches to develop an athletic pathway for students to market themselves, develop skills, and abilities necessary to excel in athletics and life, and provide students with the opportunity to participate in extracurricular and/ or co-curricular activities and ensure compliance with all federal and state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements. Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityValid Texas teaching certificate Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of operations managementAbility to oversee the operations and strategic plan for the athletic department and provide motivation and directionAbility to develop, organize, and implement programsKnowledge of federal, state, and UIL policies governing athleticsAbility to implement policy and proceduresAbility to interpret data and evaluate programsAbility to manage budget and personnelExcellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsManage positive relationships with coaches, school personnel, and the publicAbility to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, and staffAbility to problem solve, resolve disputes, and make tough decisions Experience:5 years teaching and coaching experience Major Responsibilities and Duties:Program PlanningDirect and manage the district's athletic program, facilities, and transportation.Coordinate the athletic program in collaboration with principals and coaches to ascertain programmatic needs on an annual basis, as well as prior to each season to ensure consistency of program.Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete's athlete's eligibility.Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development, including the time, resources, and materials to support the accomplishment of department goals.Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.Athletic EventsManage district athletic operations, including transportation, directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities.Coordinate with coaches and approve all interscholastic game and practice schedules.Approve or arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events.Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing of all district athletic equipment, including maintaining a current inventory of supplies, equipment, and fixed assets, and recommending disposal and replacement of equipmentCoordinate the use of all athletic facilities by non-school groups.Plan, organize, and oversee all athletic award programs.Student ManagementImplement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, Extracurricular Code of Conduct, and the Student Handbook.Establish and maintain open lines of communication on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers.Policy, Reports, and LawImplement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and local board policy in area of athletics.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents requiredFollow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Budget and InventoryDevelop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment that includes timelines for recommended disposal and replacement of equipment.Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.Personnel ManagementPrepare, review, and revise job descriptions for the athletic department.Recruit, select, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate all athletic department personnel. Make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Retention of quality personnel is the goal for program stability and growth.Evaluate job performance of personnel to ensure effectiveness.Mediate any disputes between athletes/parents and coaches or between coaches.Develop training options and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operation in area of athletics.Community RelationsArticulate the district's mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs, and initiate activities to meet those needs.Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.Support athletic booster club activities. Ensure all activities are represented.OtherOther duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of coaches and support staff.
