Job description: JOB DESCRIPTION The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. The RN is responsible to the Clinical Manager for the assigned Department. 1. Through a team approach, provides professional nursing care to adult and geriatric patients within an assigned unit through the process of assessment, treatment, planning and evaluation in support of medical care. 2. Utilizes knowledge of the physical and behavioral signs and symptoms of chemical dependency while facilitating all dimensions of the recovery process. 3. Implementation of appropriate interventions and ongoing reassessment according to the criteria established by the American Society of Addictive Medicine. Maintains treatment actives of the department in compliance with sound clinical practice, department and hospital policies and procedures and regulatory standards. HFAP, TJC, IDPH and OSHA. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE 1. Demonstrates full working knowledge of the nursing process and its application to the addicted patient. 2 Mush have the ability to demonstrate substance abuse counseling methods. 3. Must demonstrate core knowledge of related AODA counselors. 4. Knowledge of nurses' functions Code of Ethics EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1. Graduate of accredited school of Nursing 2. Two years emergency/ critical care experience 3. Registered Nurse with current State of Illinois licensure. 4. Illinois certification as a substance abuse counselor (CDAC or equivalent) a plus. 5. Maintains current CPR certification. Provide nursing care for patients Identify patient care priorities which result in quality nursing care Placed in the charge nurse role Changing patient care and unit situations Develop an appropriate nursing care plan Plan patient transitional care needs Provide residents with quality nursing care Develop care plans for assigned patients Provide quality care to assigned patients Precept or perform relief charge nurse duties Provide comfort and support for post-operative patients Provide nursing care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures Assign and direct the patient care provided by ancillary nursing staff Collaborate and coordinate patient care with other health care providers and hospital staff Perform as a professional nurse in the area of patient care and education Coordinate the nursing care for patients by assessing, planning Note the individual patient's response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records Perform nursing assessment on all new patients Perform nursing assessments on all new patients Direct patient support team members
