The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga is seeking board-certified or board-eligible emergency physicians for full-time clinical faculty positions on the Clinical track. This is an opportunity to practice high-acuity emergency medicine at the region's only Level I Trauma Center while contributing to the education of the next generation of emergency physicians. Our department is home to the first emergency medicine residency in the University of Tennessee system, currently 22 residents (8-7-7 configuration), as well as an EUFAC-accredited Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship, an EMS Fellowship, and a robust EMS program providing medical direction for 14 counties. We are a growing academic department with a collaborative culture and a deep commitment to clinical excellence and education. Clinical Environment The primary practice site is Erlanger Baroness Hospital, a 50-bed adult emergency department seeing over 45,000 patients annually, with a 33% admission rate and full subspecialty backup including trauma surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, and stroke neurology. Erlanger is the sole Level I Trauma Center and a Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center within a 120-mile radius, serving as the tertiary referral center for a four-state region encompassing southeast Tennessee, north Georgia, north Alabama, and western North Carolina. Faculty manage a high volume of acute stroke presentations including thrombolytic administration and coordination of endovascular thrombectomy, supported by 24/7 interventional neurology coverage. Faculty also rotate through Erlanger's satellite emergency departments, providing exposure to a range of patient populations and clinical environments. Total system volume exceeds 180,000 adult and pediatric emergency visits annually. Why Chattanooga? Chattanooga, Tennessee, consistently ranks among the best places to live in the United States. The city boasts a thriving food and arts scene, excellent public and private schools, and a revitalized downtown that has become a model for midsize American cities. Tennessee has no state income tax, and the cost of living is well below the national average.
