- Enjoying physical labour, teamwork and working outdoors as well as being safety-minded are vital to a career in rail operations at CN. With a vibrant, 24/7 schedule, no two days will ever be alike.
- The work schedule of a Conductor will be irregular and will include night, weekend, or holiday work hours and overtime.
- Newly hired Train Operators take part in several weeks of training which includes classroom instructions and field training in Homewood, IL. The training guides the new Conductor through the critical safety skills required to work on the railroad.
- Once the classroom training is complete, the Conductor will complete trips as a trainee with a crew to enhance his/her knowledge and skills.
- Successful completion of the training course is mandatory in order to work as a Train Operator.
