onsemi is seeking a highly skilled and motivated intern to join our team and help evaluate and enhance the verification tools used during the database release process. Once a design is ready to be released for manufacturing, extensive checks are carried out to make sure that the design meets all fabrication requirements as well as best practices. 

In Central Engineering, we are a key part of the new product development flow (NPD) with our customers relying on our detailed reviews to ensure that their new products meet requirements for electro-static discharge (ESD) performance. onsemi chip designs can range up to a billion transistors and even a single incorrect connection can compromise the ESD performance of a chip. 

To detect these potential problems, automated tools are used to carry out detailed reviews of our designs from both the schematic and the layout levels. In addition, engineers with many years of experience review selectively review blocks manually for additional considerations. As chip designs grow ever most complex, we need to enhance our verification flows to incorporate the best tools as well as enhance the checks using our existing tools. 

As our team works on every new design coming from certain teams, you'll be exposed to a variety of leading-edge image sensor and mixed signal analog integrated circuit designs. The position is based in Silicon Valley. 

Performance Objectives: 

This opportunity will ask a student to have the following performance objectives:

- Analyze existing review flows implemented in Calibre PERC for holes or escape possibilities.

- Propose and code enhancements to Calibre PERC decks for checking.

- Enhance the performance of existing tools by optimizing their coding.

- Evaluate alternate tools such as CVC - circuit verification checker for speed and coverage comparisons to tools already in use. 

**Qualifications**  

In order to be considered for an internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in school pursuing an accredited degree program. This position is specifically looking for someone who will be enrolled in a Master's or doctoral program in Electrical Engineering or related field with emphasis on chip level circuit design. 

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with coursework on analog and digital circuit design.

- Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics.

- Experience using EDA tools for circuit design, simulation, layout, and verification with Cadence and Mentor tools valued most.

- Proficient in C/C programming.

- Proficient in scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, bash) and Linux.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong team player and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.

- Experience with Calibre PERC, ESD, tcl and Python scripting most highly valued.

onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $23.50-$28.75/hr. The final pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and/or consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
