The Staff Attorney must have 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in a trial office setting. The Staff Attorney will practice with an interdisciplinary team of social workers, paralegals and investigators on the legal representation of children, ages 0 to 21 years, who are before NYC family courts on child protective, PINS (Persons-In-Need-of-Supervision), juvenile delinquency, and termination of parental rights petitions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES<ul><li>Assist in maintaining a high standard of representation and client service</li><li>Collaborate and communicate in an interdisciplinary environment</li><li>Maintain and prioritize workload including case management reports</li><li>Participate in fact-finding, dispositional and post-dispositional hearings</li><li>Handle institutional assignments including intake and case coverage</li><li>Conduct out-of-court case preparation including interviews, investigations, document review and witness preparation</li><li>Draft motions, orders, bills/demands and other documents</li><li>Counsel clients</li><li>Consult and advocate with service providers</li><li>Identify issues and resources</li><li>Seek compliance with court orders, regulatory requirements and agency policies</li><li>Ensure that the child's position is represented in all decisions made about their life</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul> Citywide <ul><li>New York State Bar admission</li><li>Minimum of two years of legal practice in family and/or juvenile law litigation experience required</li><li>Commitment to children's issues and juvenile justice</li><li>Ability to deal effectively with children, adolescents and family members</li><li>Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and advocacy skills</li><li>Ability to work in and value a collaborative team model in a high-volume practice</li><li>Pro Bono, government, public service and academic experience relevant</li></ul>SALARY TRANSPARENCY The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role.
