General Summary: General Summary This is a senior level individual contributor position within the Financial Reporting team for SEC and statutory reporting. The position will be responsible for the review of the Company's Form 10-Ks, Form 10-Qs, Form 8-Ks and quarterly earnings releases, and regulatory financials. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and statutory standards. The senior accountant will work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, treasury, legal, and external auditors. An ideal fit: •Be innovative and curious •Have strong communication and technical accounting skills •Have some experience or exposure to SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, Workiva (preferred) •Have the ability to utilize technology to increase process efficiencies •Be CPA eligible and have made demonstrated progress towards achieving a CPA *position requires 2 days per week in office at one of our campus locations* Principal Duties and Responsibilities <ul><li>Responsible for moderately complex accounting analysis and reporting of financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards</li><li>Prepares, records, analyzes, and reports moderately complex accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principals</li><li>Prepares and distributes periodic moderately complex financial statements for various governmental and/or regulatory agencies</li><li>Conducts research regarding the impact to financial statements of potential changes to accounting rules proposed by accounting standards setters</li><li>Develops, implements, and communicates to management on new policies and processes to comply with newly issues accounting standards.</li><li>Mentor and oversee work of less experienced team members.</li><li>Reconcile and balance accounts related to the specific financial area to maintain control and accuracy by identifying discrepancies and their cause and recommendations for corrective action. </li><li>Use knowledge and skills to make appropriate recommendations for efficiencies and to enhance productivity.</li><li>Maintain integrity of data in various systems and data assets that support the specific financial areas (e.g. accounting, planning, and administrative systems).</li><li>Analyze financial data, provide recommendations for appropriate action, and prepare related reports in consultation with business partner</li><li>Conduct special studies and lead projects.</li><li>Demonstrate ability to utilize resources and produce results to solve problems or issues with minimal support.</li><li>Accept responsibility for outcome of his/her own efforts.</li><li>Partner effectively with business management (typically at an officer level) to provide accounting, tax, or financial solutions that deliver business value.</li><li>Communicate issues identified, proactively recommend the most appropriate/effective resolutions and present effectively to management. </li><li>Maintain a strong, specialized working knowledge of Unum's products, services and business processes including, his/her specific business area, the issues and technical skills required to support the area. </li></ul> Job Specifications <ul><li>Bachelor's degree required</li><li>Must be CPA eligible and have made demonstrated progress towards achieving a CPA</li><li>3+ years of accounting experience or equivalent relevant work experience</li><li>Demonstrates thorough knowledge and/or a proven record of success in financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, and financial reporting systems including generally accepted accounting principles and current accounting policies and procedures.</li><li>Strong understanding of the components of multiple financial statements and how they interact with one another</li><li>Experience navigating change in a positive way.</li><li>Has mastered solid customer service skills while working effectively with functional area, team and other resources to complete assigned work while broadening contacts in other functional areas.</li><li>Highly motivated individual able to take independent actions to solve problems/issues with limited involvement from manager.</li><li>Manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal guidance from manager.</li><li>Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with all levels of management. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience. $63,500.00-$114,300.00 Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
