- Rebuilds car components: bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors Welds, fabricates, and uses torch and carbon arc to cut.
- Repairs and maintains railcars, according to blueprints and other specifications, production machinery, and other equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments: Inspects machines and equipment visually, by touch, special knowledge, and training to locate causes of trouble Measures, cuts, and threads pipes, and replaces airlines using hand tools.
- Requires indoor work 8 hours per day, and outdoor work 2 hours per day.
- Hazard exposure: mechanical from tools, electrical from welders, radiant energy from torches.
- 10 hour shifts; Monday through Thursday with occasional overtime on Fridays.
