- A Police Dispatcher Trainee/Police Dispatcher I answers multiple telephone lines, performs extensive typing/transcribing, communicates effectively with persons requesting emergency and non-emergency police assistance, clearly and accurately relays information via radio dispatch, transfers calls appropriately and maintains logs and records of communication activities.
- New hires without the state-mandated 9-1-1 dispatcher certification begin their employment as Police Dispatcher Trainees and are promoted to Police Dispatcher I after receiving the certification and serving a one-year probation.
- Dispatches police and other emergency response vehicles; broadcasts nature, location and time of incident; calls in specialized or reserve units at the direction of a supervisor; relays information as required.
- Operates radios as needed and assists in radio communications; operates base radio as required.
- Maintains dispatch documents and records; prepares case reports; enters records into the FCIC/NCIC computer as needed.
