- The Peer Counselor, under the supervision of a social worker and in collaboration with clinical staff, will serve as a family peer advocate in the Children’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CCPEP), playing an integral role with child and adolescent patients and their caregivers during mental health emergencies and connecting them to ongoing care and support.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to help patients and their families in the hospital while they visit the CCPEP and after discharge while they attend up to 3 appointments in our Interim Crisis Clinic (ICC).
- Empower patients and their caregivers to advocate for themselves, resolve issues or problems and plan for their futures by serving as a role model.
- Certification as a Peer Specialist (NYCPS) or Peer Specialist-Provisional (NYCPS-P) issued by the New York Peer Specialist Certification Board (NYPSCB); and
- Satisfactory and documented completion of a formalized Peer Counselor/Specialist Training Program or one (1) year of full-time satisfactory experience working with consumers of mental health services as a peer counselor/specialist, peer advocate or in related human services.
