- The Office of Research Compliance Administration (ORCA) is a unit of the Office of Research at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC).
- The University has a responsibility to ensure that any research conducted by students, staff or faculty at UCSC is conducted in compliance with University, local, state, federal and funding agency regulations.
- ORCA provides guidance, education and assistance with administrative processes to faculty, researchers, staff and students in areas of research compliance which currently include: human and animal subjects protection, conflicts of interest, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), cannabis, stem cell, export control, and other related compliance areas as required.
- Provides direct oversight, accountability, administration, and management of UC Santa Cruz's compliance program including, but not limited to, human and animal subjects protection, conflict of interest, responsible conduct of research, export control, foreign engagement, stem cell research oversight, and cannabis research oversight.
- Serve as a liaison between UC Santa Cruz organization and federal regulators (for example, DOE, FDA, et cetera) for research compliance issues.
